The Journey continues
Well I am down to 294lbs which is a 19lbs loss and feeling great. I am still waiting to get my date to take the civil service exam. Applied for it on the 24th of febuary so hopfully I hear from them soon. I did call and leave a message for my local MSP recuiter to ask him some questions and get his guidance. I’m looking forward to speaking with him and will let you know what he tells me.
I really want this opportunity so bad. I’m really going to have pray that if god what’s me to do this the he will open a door for me.
Why I want to be a Michigan State Trooper
I feel that the Michigan State Police is the elite police force in Michigan. They seen to hold themselves to a higher standard. When I was young I of course like most young boys loved to play cops and robbers and loved toy guns. I was always a good talker and actor so everyone said that I’d make a good salesmen so that’s what I did. I have been in the Automotive sales business for over 7 years and had a lot of financial success. I know that something was missing though, I felt so unfulfilled in doing it. I really wanted to do something important, something that had meaning to it and that I could help others. It took me a lot time and a lot of mistakes to realize what I should be doing.
Becoming an officer to me is having the highest responsibility of protecting people and the laws of this state and country . Police officer must hold themselves to a higher standard with being in the public eye. I love the idea of being able to help people who might feel they can’t trust law enforcement. Be able to make a difference in my community even if it’s just a little bit. I really feel that one person can make a difference. It a domino effect, if you change one persons life or mindset then that person can do the same to another person and so on and so forth. One top of that I love studying and knowing the laws. It is so interesting to me that millions of individuals can come together and decide the laws and rules that we decide to live by. I might not alway agree with all of them but I know that I must live by them and as an officer it would be my job and duty to enforce them. Another reason that I want to be a state trooper is the adrenaline rush of figure things out. Being able to see a situations or details and put them together like a puzzle.
My mother of course is nervous that I want to be a police officer cause she thinks I might get hurt. Of course that fear is there but that only make me better. That makes you check and double-check everything you are doing. I know that if I become a trooper there is a chance I could get hurt or worse. I feel that is my calling and know that there has to be people like me that aren’t afraid to face fears and do the jobs that must be done to help others. If not then we would not be the country that we are today.
The Journey Begins
Welcome to the site! This Process started a couple of weeks about but have decided to open up this journey up to the world. My name Is Joe Gallant, I am a 27-year-old living in Michigan. I have always wanted to be a police officer but have honestly never thought I could do it. I have made many bad decisions in my life that I felt have held me back. I was Married over 2 months ago to the women of my dreams. She has really helped my get through many things in life and has inspired me to fulfill my dreams. I am doing this for the both of us and that just feels so good.
There are many steps to this process. I am waiting right now to take my Michigan civil service exam. Which is something all state worker have to take. At the same time I have been dieting and working out every night. My starting weight last week was 313 lbs, which is the heaviest I have ever been. To even be able to apply I need to take a fitness test through the MCOLES which is the Michigan commission for law enforcement standard. I need to be able to do 30 push ups, 32 sit ups, 17.5 vertical jumps and a 1/2 miles shuttle run in 4:29.6. That is something I will be able to do by the end of May.
One of the mistakes I made in life was leaving high school in the last semester of my senior year. Yeah I know stupid but can’t change that. I am getting ready to take my G.E.D. which is needed to get into the academy. I have a long way to go but am determined to reach my goal in becoming a Michigan State Trooper.
